Conciliation instead of litigation
Austria's judicial authorities are placing greater emphasis on settling disputes out of court. Methods such as mediation, conciliation and arbitration are being increasingly used in disputes such as between neighbours, for example.
The law on the interest of neighbours sets out a number of instances where an attempt at settlement must be made before the case can be taken to court.
The Austrian Chamber of Civil Law Notaries has set up a Conciliation Board as first port of call. Settlement out of court is a faster and less costly way to obtain your rights - it helps to save money, nerves and time.
