Council of the Notariats of the European Union

The Austrian Chamber of Civil-Law Notaries has been a member of the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) since Austria's accession to the European Union. It is represented in this body by its president. CNUE represents the interests of the notarial profession with European institutions and is the political body of notaries at European level.

The Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) is the European umbrella organisation of the national professional associations of notaries. Its members are the notarial organisations of 21 EU Member States. The Croatian Chamber of Civil-Law Notaries enjoys observer status. CNUE has a permanent office in Brussels.

CNUE develops the positions of the notariat at EU level; it harmonises the standpoints of the member organisations and represents these vis-à-vis the European institutions.

Austria was appointed twice to the presidency of CNUE in the course of its history. In 2007, Dr. Klaus Woschnak, president of the Austrian Chamber of Civil-Law Notaries, acted as president of CNUE. In the year 2000, the then president of the Austrian Chamber of Civil-Law Notaries, Dr. Georg Weissmann, exercised this function.

In 2009 the former president of the French Conseil supérieur du notariat [http://www.notaires.fr/], Me Bernard Reynis, holds the CNUE presidency. The Italian notary and vice-president of the Consiglio nazionale del notariato [http://www.notariato.it/], Me Roberto Barrone, is currently CNUE's vice-president.
