The professional regulations governing notaries are laid down in the Notarial Code of 25 July 1871 as amended on 12 December 2003, Federal Law Gazette BGBl. No 12/2003. Most of the statutory provisions requiring certain legal transactions to be drafted by notarial act are laid down in the Notarial Acts Law of 25 July 1871, Federal Law Gazette BGBl. I 1999/191. Both texts are retrievable as amended free of charge from the Federal Chancellery's Law Information System (RIS).
